The head of the Lebanese Forces party, Samir Geagea, met in Maarab with the French ambassador to Lebanon, Hervé Magro, accompanied by political attaché Quentin Jeantet and political and media attaché Romain Calvary, in the presence of former Minister of Foreign Relations Richard Khaweji and Jean Bishara Khoury and Tony Darwish from the relations apparatus. Both sides agreed on the priority of safeguarding Lebanon from the risk of slipping into war and the necessity of making every effort to prevent this. They also emphasized "the utmost importance of fortifying national and constitutional institutions to confront imminent threats, particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces." They stressed the need to continue seeking effective solutions to the persistent internal crises at both the political and economic levels, despite the difficulties involved. Geagea emphasized to the French envoy that "the prevention of war in Lebanon is in the hands of Presidents Najib Mikati and Nabih Berri through a parliamentary recommendation or government decision to deploy the Lebanese army along the entire southern border and withdraw both Lebanese and Palestinian armed groups from the south of the Litani River, in implementation of Resolution 1701 in cooperation with UNIFIL."
