U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced today, Monday, Washington's "strong commitment to Israel's security" in a speech delivered before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), an organization supportive of Israel. Blinken warned in his remarks that "moves toward annexing the Israeli-occupied West Bank or altering the status quo at holy sites harm the prospects for a two-state solution."
He added, "Any movement toward annexing the West Bank, whether de facto or de jure, altering the historical status quo at holy sites, and continuing to demolish homes and displacing families that have lived in those homes for generations harms the prospects for the two-state solution, as well as undermines the dignity that all people deserve, and clearly, settlement expansion represents an obstacle to the hope we seek."
Blinken stated, "All options are on the table when it comes to preventing Iran, Israel's number one enemy, from acquiring nuclear weapons." He continued, "Washington will continue to work to help Israel integrate into the region as a means to enhance security, stability, and prosperity in the Middle East," emphasizing the importance of normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
