Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia lost the AFC Champions League title after a 1-0 defeat against Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds in the second leg of the final on Saturday.
The goal for Urawa came in Saitama when Al-Hilal's Andre Carrillo scored an own goal in the 48th minute.
After the break, Urawa's Norwegian defender Marius Hoibraten rose high to meet a free kick and headed the ball into the net, which went past goalkeeper Abdullah Al-Maiouf. Carrillo attempted to clear it but ended up putting it into his own net.
Al-Hilal pressed hard and exerted immense pressure on Urawa, especially in the final minutes. Odion Ighalo nearly scored a last-minute equalizer in the 90th minute, but goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa brilliantly saved it with his foot.
Urawa's triumph mirrored a similar scenario six years ago when they drew 1-1 with Al-Hilal in the first leg and then won the second leg by one goal.
Al-Hilal, who previously defeated Urawa 3-0 on aggregate in the 2019 final, was the better side for most of the match, pressing from the start and coming close to scoring several times, including a powerful shot from Carrillo that resulted in a corner in the 42nd minute.
Having won the Asian title four times, Al-Hilal, the defending champion, had drawn 1-1 at home last week, losing 2-1 on aggregate to the Japanese team, which claimed the title for the third time in its history after 2007 and 2017.
