Security and local sources reported that at least four soldiers from the security forces were killed today, Sunday, in an attack carried out by elements of Al-Qaeda in Shabwa Governorate in southeastern Yemen. The sources told Reuters that the attack occurred in the Al-Musinah area in the Al-Said district, west of the southern oil-rich governorate, which is active with "terrorist elements."
They added that the attack involved the detonation of an explosive device targeting an ambulance belonging to the Shabwa Defense Forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council and supported by the UAE, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers from the First Brigade and the injury of three others.
The Shabwa Defense Forces confirmed in a brief statement on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter) that "the blood of the heroic martyrs and their sacrifices will not be in vain due to this terrorist act, until the soil of Shabwa Governorate is cleared of extremist criminal elements, and its security and stability and the tranquility of its people are preserved."
This marks the first Al-Qaeda attack targeting security and military forces in Shabwa Governorate in months. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, based in Yemen, has exploited the conflict between the Saudi-led coalition and the Iran-aligned Houthi group to enhance its influence.
