Jude Bellingham scored a last-minute goal to gift Real Madrid a 2-1 victory over visiting Getafe in their first match at home in the Spanish La Liga this season on Saturday. Borja Mayoral opened the scoring for the visitors in the 11th minute following a mistake by defender Fran Garcia, but Real's Joselu equalized with a close-range shot after the break.
Real pressed heavily on Getafe until Bellingham, who has been outstanding since joining this summer from Borussia Dortmund, scored the winning goal for the home team in stoppage time, positioned perfectly to follow up on a shot from Lucas Vazquez that was rebounded by goalkeeper David Soria.
Real players contested several refereeing decisions in the first half, including the cancellation of a penalty awarded to Bellingham after a review by the VAR. However, Real continued to attack and new signing Joselu equalized with a close shot in the 47th minute to make it 1-1.
Real applied intense pressure on Getafe and hit the woodwork three times, causing frustration in the packed Santiago Bernabeu Stadium following its renovation in a massive project costing around 900 million euros. Real's Rodrigo wasted several chances, and goalkeeper Soria saved two of his attempts before Bellingham, the league's top scorer, finally clinched the victory in stoppage time.
Joselu told Real Madrid TV: "Winning always feels great. The fans at the Bernabeu helped us; our supporters are amazing, and we earned three golden points to reach four wins in four matches." Real currently leads the league with 12 points, five ahead of Atletico Madrid, Girona, Barcelona, and Cadiz.
