Spain's Women's Team Qualifies for the Olympics for the First Time

The Spanish women's national football team has qualified for the Summer Olympic Games for the first time after defeating the Netherlands 3-0 in the semifinals of the Women's European Nations League last night. The first half ended with the hosts and world champions leading 2-0, with goals from Jenni Hermoso and Aitana Bonmatí, the Ballon d'Or winner. Ona Batlle added the third goal in the 77th minute in front of a record crowd for Spanish women's team matches, with 21,856 fans at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville. In the other semifinal match, the Olympic host France defeated Germany 2-1 at home, setting up a title match against Spain. Germany and the Netherlands will face off in the third-place playoff next Wednesday, where the winner will secure participation in the 2024 Olympics in Paris alongside Spain.
