Ramadan Truce: What's Happening in Cairo Talks?

With the ongoing discussions in the Egyptian capital for the past two days between a delegation from Hamas and regional mediators aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a prisoner exchange with Israel, new information has emerged. Sources informed "Al Arabiya" today, Wednesday, that Egyptian and Qatari mediators are currently trying to reach at least a humanitarian truce in the first week of Ramadan. They are also working to increase humanitarian aid into the besieged territory starting Sunday, and to persuade Israel to agree to increase aid deliveries before Ramadan.

Additionally, sources stated that Israel will provide its response to Hamas's demands to the mediators in the coming hours. It was revealed that the Qatari and Egyptian mediators sent a message to Tel Aviv confirming their rejection of any military action in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip or continued gunfire during Ramadan.

Hamas has requested a timeline for Israel's response to its demands and a schedule for concluding negotiations, indicating that Israel's intransigence has been behind the delay in reaching a consensus. Hamas is demanding a complete and permanent ceasefire, the return of displaced persons to northern Gaza, and an increase in the delivery of aid, emphasizing that it has demonstrated flexibility during the talks. It believes that Israel is avoiding certain obligations, particularly regarding a permanent ceasefire.

The discussions faced significant difficulties yesterday, as confirmed by reports, but the movement will continue discussions today as well.
