Thousands of Iranians participated in state-sponsored rallies today, Saturday, to protest the killing of children and civilians in the Gaza war. A senior military leader stated that Israel is heading towards its doom in a war of attrition. Iranian Revolutionary Guard Commander Hossein Salami said during a protest in the capital, Tehran, broadcast live by state television, "Palestine is on the path of a war of attrition... Israel will face inevitable defeat and will end up in the dustbin of history."
Salami added, "The battle is not over; the Islamic world will do what it must. There are still enormous capabilities that have not been used," without mentioning any specific moves from Iran to engage in the conflict.
State television aired footage of some protesters during the rallies across the country, carrying white shrouds symbolizing the children killed in Gaza. The rallies come ahead of Universal Children's Day, which falls on Monday.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry appealed to the international community on Saturday to help stop "the organized killing machine and terrorism of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people and hold the Zionist criminals accountable before justice and international law."
