An American official stated that "Washington is confused due to Israel's decision on Monday to withdraw from planned talks this week regarding Gaza and considers the decision an exaggerated reaction to the United States' abstention from voting on a Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza." The official mentioned to reporters that "the tension in domestic politics in Israel is likely the reason for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's report of not sending an Israeli delegation to Washington for the talks." He added that "President Joe Biden does not plan to contact Netanyahu regarding the decision, and Netanyahu did not initiate contact with Biden prior to the decision."
