Pakistani media reported on Wednesday that at least 14 infants have tragically died due to a fire in the PIMS Hospital in Islamabad. Initial investigations suggest the blaze was caused by a malfunction in the air conditioning system.
A statement released by the Islamabad District Office detailed that the fire broke out on the third floor of the Mother and Child Wing of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). According to the statement, "A total of 14 children perished in the incident."
Geo News, citing rescue team sources, indicated that the fire followed an explosion in the compressor of an air conditioning unit within the hospital's nursery located in the federal capital.
Rescue officials reported that the fire has been extinguished, and cooling operations are currently underway at the site.
