Beijing announced that it was subjected to "defamation and attack" during the summit between US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Washington, where they announced "the most important defense partnership" between their countries since the Cold War. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a regular press conference: "Disregarding China's concerns, the United States and Japan defamed and attacked China regarding Taiwan and maritime issues, grossly interfering in China's internal affairs and violating fundamental norms governing international relations."
