Longest COVID-19 Infection Duration in the World: Recovered After 411 Days!

A 59-year-old British man has recovered from COVID-19 after being infected for 411 days, marking the longest recorded duration of infection with a survivor to date. The patient contracted an early variant of the virus and was unable to overcome the infection due to his weakened immune system following a kidney transplant. The patient's infection was first confirmed in 2020, and despite the loss of symptoms, tests continued to return positive results until 2022. Paramedics used genetic analysis to determine that the man carried an early variant of the original Wuhan strain of the virus that emerged in December 2019. The same team treated another patient with an underlying health condition, who died after testing positive for 505 days.
