This Saturday morning marked the conclusion of the "sprint" races, as part of the first round of the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship held in Indonesia. Seventeen boats from all over the world participated, led by the Emirati teams "Team Abu Dhabi," "Team Sharjah," and "Team Victory." The "Victory 4" boat, helmed by Erik Stark, secured 10 points in the sprint races, while Swedish Jonas Andersson's boat also earned 10 points by clinching the first place in both sprint races.
Abu Dhabi team star Saeed Al Qamzi kicked off the round by earning 5 points, finishing sixth in the sprint. Meanwhile, the "Abu Dhabi 6" boat, captained by Alberto Campriano, achieved 4 points and placed seventh. The new competition system awards points to racers on a designated day for the sprint races, which contribute to the overall standings for the championship title.
The inaugural round of the season will conclude tomorrow, Sunday, with races set to take place on a 2,218-meter track across the lake, featuring 9 air gates. The longest distance will be between gate number 1 and gate number 2, measuring 520 meters.
