Sudanese Sovereignty Council President and Army Commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan confirmed that "the battle for dignity continues until the defeat of the Rapid Support Forces and their allies." In a speech delivered before officers and soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division in Shendi, Nile River State in northern Sudan, Al-Burhan stated that the Sudanese army would not lay down its arms "until the rebels are defeated," referring to the Rapid Support Forces. He also urged the Rapid Support Forces "to heed reason and withdraw from the states of Al-Jazira and Khartoum." He added, "As long as you are killing, looting, and stealing, there is no room for negotiations with you until the battle is over." It is noteworthy that the Rapid Support Forces have tightened their control over Al-Jazira State following the army's withdrawal after days of fighting, and they control large areas of the capital Khartoum and the regions of Kordofan and Darfur in western Sudan.
