The press office of the Pakistani army announced that "at least 7 soldiers were killed in an attack launched by terrorists on a security post in North Waziristan, a region in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa adjacent to Afghanistan." According to information from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), "a group of 6 terrorists carried out an attack on the security post early on Saturday morning." A statement released by the ISPR said: "During the security operation, Pakistani forces, led by Major Kashif, engaged the terrorists and eliminated all of them." The statement noted that "a firefight resulted in the deaths of 7 Pakistani soldiers, including Major Saeed Kashif (39 years old) and Commander Muhammad Ahmed (23 years old)."
