Sayigh: Le Drian Comes to Lebanon to Explore Alternatives Because He Knows There is No Possibility to Promote Franjieh

In response to a question from the Lebanese Kataeb party member, MP Salim Sayigh, via Al-Hadath channel about the visits of American, French, and Iranian envoys to Lebanon, he stated: "These visits are to manage the status quo and reinforce stagnation, as there is no sign of a political breakthrough anticipated by the Lebanese people." He pointed out that the French and Le Drian are working, and the proposal that Le Drian will bring is a dialogue of an unknown nature until today, as he asked the Lebanese parties to provide him with documents and to clearly state their positions regarding the characteristics of the president and the tasks he should undertake. This indicates that they are deeply involved in the Lebanese file and perhaps there is a significant interest in Lebanon in that regard. Sayigh continued: "The French cannot, and I believe he has reassessed his calculations in Lebanon, bring forth a candidate from one team to promote him to another team," noting that "realism requires everyone, including the West, to deal with the situation in Lebanon from a certain perspective." He concluded his statement by saying: "I believe Le Drian comes to Lebanon to explore alternatives, as he knows that there is no possibility of beautifying or marketing the image of candidate Franjieh, who, according to the Doha announcement of the quintet meeting, cannot communicate and be accepted by all Lebanese."
