Mekari Welcomes the Opening of

Minister of Information in the caretaker government, Engineer Ziad Mekari, welcomed the opening of a "Sputnik" Russian radio office in Beirut, stating that "this indicates that Beirut remains a key center for Arab and global media." He believes that "this media investment in Lebanon will increase job opportunities and help stabilize Lebanese youth in their homeland." In a statement to "Sputnik," Mekari confirmed the "commitment to preserving the freedom of the media that distinguishes Beirut and is considered a gathering place for all media and cultural activities." He noted, "This is a great journalistic and media heritage that should be preserved and developed." He pointed out that "the media, by its nature, reflects the reality on the ground, including chaos, protests, and political, financial, and constitutional crises; however, the state of the media in Lebanon remains controlled," considering that "social media is not part of the media."
