Sunderland, competing in the English League One, announced yesterday, Monday, the appointment of former Rangers coach Michael Beale as their new manager, succeeding Tony Mowbray. Sunderland stated in a press release, "Beale has signed a contract until the summer of 2026 and began his duties yesterday." He returned to management after a two-month absence following his departure from Rangers. Sunderland dismissed Mowbray earlier this month after 15 months in charge. Mowbray led the team to playoff qualifying for the Premier League in his first season, but the club won only two of their last nine league matches during his tenure. Rangers parted ways with Beale as their results this season fell below expectations. The 43-year-old former Charlton Athletic player was also part of the coaching staff at Chelsea and Liverpool Academies. Sunderland currently sits in seventh place, outside the playoff spots for the Premier League, and will host Coventry next Saturday.
