Israeli Airstrikes in Central Gaza; Naval Forces Attack Rafah in the South

The Gaza Strip opened the new year similarly to its past days, amidst Israeli bombardments that targeted various areas. Today, Monday, explosions were heard west of the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza. Israeli naval forces struck the Zawaida area in the center of the Strip, and the western coast of Rafah in southern Gaza, according to Palestinian radio reports.

Additionally, Israeli artillery shelled areas east of the Al-Bureij and Al-Maghazi camps in the center of the Strip, and conducted intense and ongoing bombardments around Jabaliya town, Al-Tuffah, and the Jabaliya camp. Israeli forces also targeted neighborhoods in central Khan Younis in the south. An Israeli strike on a house west of Khan Younis resulted in several deaths and injuries, according to Palestinian television.

In the last hours, 35 people, including children, were killed in Israeli strikes on Khan Younis. These attacks occurred on the first day of the new year, following Israeli hints that the war against settlements and military bases in the Gaza Envelope may continue for months, possibly the entire year.

This comes as the number of Palestinian fatalities has reached 21,822, with the injured tally rising to 56,451, most of whom are children and women. Over 80% of the Strip's population has been displaced internally, and two-thirds of its buildings have been partially or completely destroyed.
