Former Iraqi Prime Minister and leader of the National Coalition, Ayad Allawi, proposed measures today to prevent the recurrence of "sovereignty violations" by the United States following recent strikes on Popular Mobilization Forces sites in Al-Anbar province in western Iraq. Allawi stated on X (formerly Twitter) that "In light of the repeated assaults and ongoing violations of sovereignty, we see that the strategic treaty with the United States is merely talk that has not reached the level of implementation," urging a review of that treaty "and reconsideration to establish new rules of engagement that grant Iraq sovereignty."
He added that "the current situation requires the formation of a unified command for the armed forces that includes all fighting formations, such as the army, police, the mobilization forces, and Peshmerga, and that these forces be under the command of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, with the Defense Minister serving as his deputy."
