India and Russia Sign Agreements for Future Nuclear Units

India announced today, Tuesday, that it has "signed agreements with Russia to build units in the future at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tamil Nadu, southern India." Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is expected to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov during his visit to Russia tomorrow, Wednesday, where the two ministers intend to discuss bilateral relations as well as conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, along with issues related to groups like BRICS. Jaishankar stated in a meeting with the Indian community in Moscow today: "Today, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, we signed some important agreements regarding the construction of future units at the Kudankulam nuclear project." The construction of the first and second units began nearly two decades ago as part of an agreement signed by the two countries. New Delhi and Moscow have maintained close ties for decades, with India refraining from condemning Russia in its war against Ukraine.
