A bizarre incident occurred in Rashid, Beheira Governorate, northern Egypt, where an Egyptian man attempted to kill his ex-wife's family and her lawyer by sending them a poisoned gift. The Egyptian authorities received reports of several members of a single family being admitted to Rashid Hospital suffering from illness, with some in critical condition. It was revealed that they had suffered from poisoning after consuming pieces of kunafa sent by an individual through a local shop, accompanied by invitations to a wedding.
Investigations conducted by Egyptian security agencies revealed that a member of the family received a bag containing a box of sweets wrapped with a wedding invitation card featuring the names of his relatives. Upon opening the box and consuming the kunafa inside, they began to feel unwell and were subsequently hospitalized.
Further inquiries and surveillance footage analysis identified the person who sent the poisoned gift as Sayed A.M., 56 years old, a law graduate and ex-husband of one of the family members. After experiencing disputes with his ex-wife, who resides in Germany, he decided to take revenge by attempting to kill her family in Egypt.
It was also discovered that the accused sent another box of poisoned kunafa to his ex-wife's lawyer, who lives in the same city. He was promptly apprehended before attempting to flee to Germany and admitted to committing the act, justifying his actions by claiming he sought revenge against the family and the lawyer for causing disputes with his ex-wife.
The prosecution charged the suspect with attempted murder of seven individuals and ordered him to be detained for four days pending investigation.
