Russian Foreign Ministry Comments on Ceasefire Decision in Gaza

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed today, Tuesday, Russia's conviction on the necessity to seize the opportunity presented by the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolution, which the United States previously obstructed with obstinacy and hypocrisy, and to prevent the military operation in Rafah.

In a statement, it said, "We hope that the UN Security Council resolution regarding the ceasefire in Gaza will help prevent the Israeli operation in Rafah and contribute to calming the level of violence."

It added, "The Russian side expects that the mandatory UN Security Council resolution No. 2728 will contribute to reducing violence in Gaza, including preventing the Israeli operation in Rafah, releasing hostages, and increasing the volume of humanitarian aid to civilians in the region. (2 million have been forced to leave their homes, half of whom now face the threat of catastrophic famine) and preventing their forced displacement."

The Foreign Ministry further stated, "Russia is convinced of the necessity to seize the opportunity presented by the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution, which the United States obstinately and hypocritically prevented from being adopted; it must be seized."
