A moist low-pressure system is centered above Cyprus, causing unstable weather today, Tuesday, with a drop in temperatures. Heavy rain is expected at times, accompanied by thunder and lightning, as well as snow on high mountains (2700 meters). It is noted that this fast-moving low will partially recede tomorrow, Wednesday, while the weather remains changeable with the possibility of localized rain until next Saturday.
Several injuries were reported this morning due to a bus carrying students overturning on the Batoulieh - Tyre main road because of the rain. Numerous accidents were recorded, leading to severe traffic jams on highways this morning. The Beirut-Jmeil highway experienced heavy traffic due to rising water levels on the road.
In this context, traffic control has urged drivers to exercise caution and reduce speed due to the rainfall, ensuring public safety. It also pointed to water accumulation on the following roads: before the airport tunnels toward Beirut, the Rahab intersection toward the Kuwaiti embassy, and Chevrolette under the Limok bridge. Coordination with the Ministry of Public Works has been established, and efforts are underway to address these issues.
The Civil Defense indicated that it rescued citizens and towed 8 vehicles in the Akkiba and Safra areas. Additionally, there is a possibility of another effective and cold low-pressure system impacting Lebanon on Sunday, November 19.
