The media office of the caretaker Finance Minister, Youssef Khalil, announced that "in line with the work schedule regarding the start of preparations for the annual government budget, the Finance Minister signed a circular directed to the ministries through official letters to begin preparing the draft budget for the year 2025, hoping that the draft will include a reformist approach after the approval of two corrective budgets."
The statement indicated that "the circular also included the general framework required in its preparation, with the most prominent points being the establishment of spending limits capped at the 2024 budget allocations, given the expectation that revenues will be affected by the unstable security situation, in order not to create any deficit that threatens financial and monetary stability."
It was noted that "the budget draft clearly aims to enhance investment spending, which would contribute to reviving the economy."
In a related context, a meeting was held today at the Ministry of Finance with a group of representatives from donor agencies, discussing in detail the proposed budget framework, along with a presentation of various activities that could support the Budget Directorate and help restore its operational effectiveness and tasks.
The office reported that "the attendees expressed their readiness to support the reform process in the Budget Directorate, and various activities were presented that could assist donor agencies in helping the Budget Directorate restore its functionality and develop its tasks. They showed clear willingness and responsiveness."
