After the Rain: Symptoms Linked to Water Pollution in the UAE

Following the wave of rain and floods that hit the United Arab Emirates last week, the Ministry of Health and Prevention announced the emergence of symptoms related to water pollution in a limited number of individuals. In a statement released by the ministry on Wednesday, it was noted that "a very limited number of cases exhibited some symptoms affected by mixed water, and necessary treatment was provided, ensuring their safety and discharge from the hospital."

The statement, shared on the "X" platform, added that the Ministry of Health and Prevention took necessary and immediate measures and raised the state of preparedness in health facilities to address any cases resulting from the low atmospheric pressure. Additionally, the Ministries of Energy and Health revealed that some rainwater leaks occurred in a few underground tanks in limited areas of the country, indicating that specialized teams immediately conducted water quality checks in the affected tanks and cleaned and disinfected them to ensure their quality and safety for human use through periodic tests in accredited laboratories that apply the highest quality standards and guidelines from the World Health Organization.

Moreover, the record rainfall that the country experienced led to school and business closures and halted hundreds of flights. However, authorities announced that life had returned to normal just a few days after the storm.
