Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita announced on Friday that his country is always striving for a "just and comprehensive" peace in the Middle East that "takes into account the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people." He added in a press statement, following talks with the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein Al-Sheikh, that "Morocco will always be alongside you (the Palestinians) for a lasting and just solution that preserves the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people."
He continued, "Morocco, within the framework of this strategic choice for peace and the relationships it has with the Israeli side, has always been keen to be a force for peace, a force for construction, and a force to weaken extremism wherever it exists... the side that exploits the Palestinian cause for political gains rather than engaging in finding solutions."
For his part, Al-Sheikh, who is currently visiting Morocco, stated that Rabat has played "a very significant role in consolidating the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in all forums and through all regional and international platforms." He added that he agreed with Bourita on the importance of consultations "between us and our Arab brothers... and the necessity of having a unified Arab position regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict."
