Lavrov to Abdollahian: The Israeli Attack on the Iranian Consulate is Unacceptable

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov strongly condemned the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that "it was emphasized that any attacks on diplomatic and consular facilities, which are protected by relevant Vienna agreements, are absolutely unacceptable, as well as political assassinations." Lavrov and Abdollahian reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a high level of coordination, with the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement noting a mutual commitment to sustaining this coordination on current international and regional agenda issues. An Israeli airstrike targeted the Iranian general consulate building in Damascus, Syria, on the evening of April 1st, which also houses the residence of Iranian Ambassador Hossein Akbari, who was not injured in the attack. According to a statement from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, the consulate building was completely destroyed as a result of the attack.
