It seems that the transfer saga of French star Kylian Mbappé is taking a new turn, according to a Spanish media report published today, which states that FC Barcelona wants to secure the signature of the Paris Saint-Germain star, who is looking to leave after being unable to cope with the impending renewal of Argentine Lionel Messi following France's loss in the World Cup final against Argentina.
Despite its financial troubles, Barcelona aims to make a major move in the summer transfer market by signing Kylian Mbappé, as reported by "Mundo Deportivo." According to the report, the 24-year-old Mbappé is not in the best of spirits after losing the World Cup final in Qatar to Argentina.
The report suggested that the defeat against his teammate at the Parc des Princes could be decisive for Barcelona's strategy, and that Nasser Al-Khelaifi has already reached a preliminary agreement with Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi's father, to extend his contract which expires on June 30.
Until now, the preferred destination for the French striker had been Real Madrid, but the current situation opens the door for Barcelona as well, especially since Real Madrid has distanced itself from Mbappé, announcing that any signing with him is not imminent or expected after he suffered a "shock" twice in 2021.
The latest disappointment came last summer after an agreement with Florentino Pérez on everything for a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, but Mbappé "betrayed" Pérez, leaving him in a difficult position with the fans of the royal club, by renewing his contract with Paris Saint-Germain for a "historic" deal lasting until 2025.
Mbappé himself, who has faced intense backlash on social media from many Madrid fans, has seemingly decided that it would be better to sign for Barcelona, especially since he does not want to share the locker room with a national team player he "can no longer tolerate," such as Karim Benzema.
What aids Barcelona is that after renewing with Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappé included a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the Parc des Princes whenever he wished, as long as there were compelling reasons. His anger towards everything that represents Messi is undoubtedly a "perfect excuse" to leave Paris.
