Israeli Army Storms Camp in Jericho

At least 4 Palestinians were injured on Saturday morning following clashes that erupted when the Israeli army invaded a refugee camp in Jericho, eastern West Bank. Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli forces stormed the Aqabat Jabr camp in Jericho and surrounded a house there, where armed confrontations broke out, reaching the point of launching rocket grenades at the house. Army bulldozers began demolition works around the targeted house, which is believed to belong to the perpetrator of an attack that occurred days earlier in the Jericho area. Video footage showed Israeli soldiers arresting two individuals in the camp, whose identities were not immediately clear.

Israeli forces have imposed strict restrictions on the entrances to Jericho for several days in search of what they claim is the assailant of an attack on a restaurant for settlers near the city. No injuries occurred during the shooting incident in January of last year as the attacker’s weapon malfunctioned before he fled. The West Bank and Jerusalem have been experiencing heightened tension for about a year, which peaked about two weeks ago when Israel launched an attack in Jenin that resulted in the deaths of 9 Palestinians. The day after that attack, a Palestinian opened fire on settlers, killing 7 of them in Jerusalem, marking the most intense confrontations between the two sides in two decades.
