Tunisian Radio Mourns Its Correspondent: Saved Two Children from Drowning and Passed Away

The private Tunisian radio station "Jawhara FM" announced that journalist Tawfiq Makhlouf, who worked with them, died on the beach of the city of Harqalah in the Sousse Governorate after making great efforts to confront strong waves to save two children. The radio reported a civil protection official stating that Makhlouf was exhausted after exiting the sea and suffered from severe internal bleeding, and attempts to rescue him were unsuccessful. Eyewitnesses quoted by the radio reported that "journalist Tawfiq Makhlouf (50 years old) saved a seven-year-old girl who was swept away by strong waves and later assisted her father in rescuing her brother." According to testimonies, the sea was very rough and not suitable for diving the day before.
