Jordan's Minister of Education, Azmi Muhafaza, revealed that there are students in the tenth grade in Jordanian schools who cannot read or write, sparking widespread shock among social media users regarding these statements. The minister made these remarks during a lecture at the International Affairs Association, justifying these results by the policy that prevents students from being expelled from basic education, allowing them to remain in schools even if they are illiterate. Minister Muhafaza stated that the education system in Jordan permits students to repeat a grade for one year, after which they are automatically promoted to the next grade, resulting in students who cannot read or write reaching the tenth grade. He mentioned that he personally became aware of the existence of these students in schools after an international study indicated that there are students who do not read or write.
