Ceasefire negotiations in Gaza continue today in Cairo among all parties, aiming for a final agreement on a unified formula after disputes that arose in the past few hours. The Egyptian security delegation emphasized to their Israeli counterparts the necessity of halting escalation to avoid negative consequences resulting from ongoing tensions in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he asked the negotiating delegation heading to Cairo to insist on the conditions required for the release of captives. Defense Minister Yoav Galant mentioned that the country is prepared to make concessions to recover the detainees but will intensify its operations if an agreement is not reached.
The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it had fully taken control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing that separates Gaza from Egyptian territory in a military operation that began on Monday.
In related news, a high-ranking Egyptian source confirmed that there is no truth, either in form or substance, to reports from Israeli media about Egypt assuming any security responsibilities within the Gaza Strip. The source stated that Egypt would not take on any security responsibilities of any kind.
Additionally, an informed source told Reuters that CIA Director Bill Burns will travel to Israel on Wednesday for talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials.
