Israel Considers Prisoner Exchange Deal After Killing of Three Captives in Shujaiya

The Hebrew Broadcasting Authority reported that Tel Aviv is considering a prisoner exchange deal following the incident in which three captives were killed in Shujaiya. Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi stated, "I and the army take responsibility for the killing of the three 'Israeli' captives in the Shujaiya area." Halevi emphasized that it is prohibited to shoot at those who raise a white flag, but the shooting of the captives occurred under pressing circumstances. The army, in a statement, indicated that during the fighting in Shujaiya, a military unit mistakenly identified three Israeli captives as a threat, leading to an immediate shooting that resulted in their deaths. Furthermore, the army added that during an inspection of the area, suspicions arose regarding the identities of the deceased, and the bodies were sent for examination in Tel Aviv, later confirmed to be three 'Israeli' captives. The Israeli army also stated that it sent a message to the family of the third captive, whose name will not be disclosed.
