Guterres: The Number of Child Deaths in Gaza Exceeds Any Figures in UN Reports on Armed Conflicts in the Last 7 Years

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced today, Monday, that the number of child deaths in Gaza surpasses any figure in UN reports on armed conflicts over the past seven years. He added at a press conference in New York that he has presented reports over the past seven years showing that the highest number of children killed in a single year by one party was in 2017 or 2018 by the "Taliban," with the second highest number attributed to the Syrian government, where the child death toll reached about 700. In response to a question about why some actions are not classified as war crimes, Guterres stated that he has always been very clear in addressing violations of international humanitarian law and breaches of civilian protection. He emphasized that the important factor is the facts on the ground, not the labels that specific entities may define.
