FC Barcelona, the reigning champions of La Liga, topped the list of clubs with the highest average fan attendance in 2023, according to statistics from Transfermarkt. Barcelona ranked first among clubs with an average of 83,273 fans per match at their home ground, "Camp Nou," in La Liga. This achievement is attributed to "Spotify Camp Nou," which has a capacity of approximately 99,354 spectators, making it the largest football stadium in Europe.
Interestingly, Barcelona also had attendance figures from another stadium, "Montjuïc Olympic," where they played the second half of 2023 during the renovation of "Camp Nou," ranking 44th with an average of 40,737 fans.
Borussia Dortmund came in second with an average attendance of 81,312, followed by their neighbors Bayern Munich, the German league champions, with an average of 75,003 fans. Manchester United dropped to fourth place with an attendance of 73,586, losing the top spot they held in 2022, which had an average of 73,690 fans.
The Milan clubs, Inter and AC Milan, playing at "Giuseppe Meazza" in San Siro, secured the fifth and sixth positions with averages of 72,960 and 71,449 fans, respectively.
Six of the top 20 highest-attended clubs in the world in 2023 were British, including West Ham United in seventh place (62,575), Tottenham in ninth (61,566), Arsenal in twelfth (60,199), Scottish club Celtic in fifteenth (58,655), and Manchester City in twentieth position (53,305).
The first 16 positions in the list were taken by European clubs, with Brazilian team Flamengo as the only non-European club in the 17th position, averaging an attendance of 56,689 fans in 2023. The Saudi Union entered the list in the last position as the only Arab team, ranking 55th with an average attendance of 37,061 fans.
