Former Iraqi national team goalkeeper Nuri Sabri, currently the director of Nift Al-Wasat Club, denied today, Thursday, the information suggesting that an arrest warrant and travel ban had been issued against him. Sabri revealed that he would initiate legal actions against those who promoted this information, including individuals and pages on social media.
He added that "the issue fundamentally relates to a malicious lawsuit from three years ago, which has been legally closed, and what is currently happening is an attempted blackmail by known individuals." Regarding the travel ban rumors, Sabri stated: "There is no such thing, and I am currently in Saudi Arabia since yesterday and will return to Baghdad to settle the case and follow up on my work."
Media outlets had circulated reports suggesting that Nuri Sabri had fled after an arrest order was issued against him under Article 459 of the Iraqi Penal Code. However, informed sources close to the former Iraqi football star denied these reports entirely through Shafaq News.
In detail, sources claimed that "social media accounts bearing the name of the former president of Nift Al-Wasat Club, Haytham Baiwi, had spread these rumors." In response, Baiwi expressed his astonishment at being implicated in Nuri Sabri's case during a conversation with Shafaq News, denying any involvement in leaking documents against Nuri.
