An unknown player has emerged on the open battlefront in Southern Lebanon, as a group calling itself "Islamic Honor Brigades" announced the execution of an operation yesterday in the Shebaa Farms. The Israeli army claimed to have confronted the group and killed its three members, while five Israeli soldiers were injured to varying degrees and transported for treatment to the hospital. The faction stated that its fighters conducted the attack early Sunday on the Ruwaysat al-Alam site in the Shebaa Farms, killing three members while two returned safely to their positions. In a statement, it was mentioned that the operation was in response to the targeting of a reconnaissance group in the same area on Friday.
This new organization is being heard of for the first time in Lebanon, and no party has declared its identity or whether it is Lebanese, Palestinian, or otherwise. Lebanese security sources told Al-Sharq Al-Awsat that this "faction remains mysterious, and there is no minimal information available about it as of Sunday evening." Amid the ambiguity surrounding the announcement, a Lebanese expert following developments in the south commented: "If there were an intention to announce the party, the operation would have been claimed, which has not happened so far. The ambiguity also extends to how the statement reached the WhatsApp and Telegram groups through which it was circulated."
