The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, hopes that Manchester United's loaned striker Mason Greenwood will extend his stay in Spain after a successful period with Getafe, a team competing in the local first division. Greenwood (22 years old) joined Getafe last September, as United stated they wanted to avoid the player being a distraction despite all criminal charges being dropped following allegations of assault and attempted rape, which he denied.
Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner of United, mentioned last week that the club might reconsider Greenwood's situation, but Tebas is eager to keep the player in Spanish football. The BBC reported Tebas saying after speaking at the Financial Times Business of Football Conference, "I am a lawyer." He added, "If someone is acquitted in a legal case, there’s nothing else to say. He is in good shape as a player, and I hope he remains in Spanish football. That is good for us."
Tebas further stated, "We have to respect the legal process. Perhaps people in the media condemn him, but we must respect judicial rulings." Greenwood has scored seven goals in 25 matches with Getafe across all competitions this season.
