Stars at Cannes Festival Support AIDS Research

Stars including Queen Latifah, Jeffrey Wright, and Heidi Klum escaped the busy Croisette street where the Cannes Film Festival is held to attend a fundraising event for AIDS research at a luxurious secluded hotel in the nearby Antibes resort. Singer Bebe Rexha, one of those who participated in the event yesterday (Thursday), said, "I wanted to be here tonight because I think it's a great charity and to do what I can."

In addition to Rexha, singer Adam Lambert and singers Gladys Knight and Halsey performed to entertain the guests who paid considerable amounts to attend the event, while Queen Latifah hosted the evening, which included a fashion show and an auction. The aim of the evening was to raise funds on behalf of amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, which also supports HIV prevention and treatment education.

Kevin Robert Frost, CEO of amfAR, stated on the blue carpet of the event, "Our goal is to have a treatment for everyone." Before dinner, guests wandered around the outdoor area of the hotel overlooking the water and a giant yacht, viewing the auction items on display. Among the items was a painting titled "A Beautiful Painting of Leonardo DiCaprio Looking Away," signed by actor and artist Damien Hirst, as well as a geometric piece over one meter tall made of steel, glass, and bright lights from the film "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery."

Klum wore a light green feathered dress, while Rexha's gown featured a large bow on the back that resembled a pair of wings. The minimum ticket price to attend the event started at $25,000, while a ticket costing $500,000 offered a premium seat at a dinner table for 12 guests.

amfAR states that it has invested nearly $600 million since 1985 in its programs and has provided over 3,500 grants to research teams worldwide.
