Striker Christian Stuani scored two late goals within five minutes to lead Girona to a 2-1 victory over Valencia, strengthening their position at the top of the Spanish La Liga on Saturday. Valencia committed to defense and held firm under pressure, managing to take the lead in the 57th minute thanks to a clever shot from Hugo Duro, capitalizing on a mistake by defender David Lopez at the edge of the penalty area.
However, with the support of the fans filling Montilivi Stadium, Girona rallied thanks to Stuani, who struck from close range after a perfect cross from Yan Couto in the 83rd minute. Just five minutes later, the duo linked up again as substitute Couto quickly advanced down the right side and delivered another cross from which Stuani scored the winning goal.
Stuani told Movistar Plus: "I am very happy for the team. The team did not give up. Valencia handled the match very well, and we struggled. Our efforts continued, and in the end, the goals came." Girona tops the standings with 38 points, three points ahead of Real Madrid, which hosts Granada later today.
