Sudanese army commander and Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, stated on Wednesday that there will be no negotiations, peace, or ceasefire until what he described as the "rebellion" of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is defeated. During a visit to the army's front lines in the River Nile state, north of Khartoum, Al-Burhan asserted that "the fighting will not stop until we defeat these criminals who have destroyed this noble country, who have violated citizens' properties, and who have committed the most heinous violations."
He further noted that "the fight against the terrorist and rebellious Rapid Support Forces will not cease until this homeland is liberated from these rebels." This visit comes days after the army announced an intensification of its operations in the Kadro military area north of Khartoum to cut off supplies to the Rapid Support Forces.
The army stated in a statement last Saturday that it destroyed several fuel trucks and combat vehicles belonging to the RSF. Clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF erupted in mid-April 2023 due to disagreements over plans to integrate the RSF into the army.
