The Brazilian Football Confederation announced the evacuation of some U23 national team players from their hotel in Fes, Morocco, due to concerns about the earthquake that struck the country on Friday night. The earthquake coincided with the presence of the Brazilian Olympic team, led by Barcelona's new star Vitor Roque, in Morocco, where they were scheduled to play a friendly match against the Moroccan Olympic team on Monday during the current international break.
Vitor Roque, who recently joined Barcelona from Atlético Paranaense, was not harmed but was among the players evacuated from the hotel at the moment of the earthquake to seek shelter near the swimming pool. The Brazilian federation stated, "The Brazilian federation sympathizes with the Moroccan people in the tragedy caused by the earthquake on Friday night."
It added, "The Olympic team delegation, which is preparing to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, is safe in Fes, a city that was not affected by the earthquake." It continued, "The players and coaching staff felt the earthquake on Friday night, and for safety reasons, everyone stayed near the hotel pool for about an hour before returning to their rooms."
