The Portuguese star João Cancelo, defender for Barcelona, has raised doubts about his future within the Catalan club. The Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo highlighted Barcelona's options to strengthen their defensive flanks for the upcoming season.
It noted that Barcelona officials value Cancelo's continuity on the right side; however, confidence in him has waned significantly after a sharp decline in his performance when playing on the left. The report mentioned that Manchester City does not intend to keep the Portuguese player, and if a suitable offer does not arrive, the English club might welcome his loan to Barcelona for another season.
Additionally, the options available to Barcelona's management and coach Xavi Hernández for the right side also include considering the return of Julian Araujo, who is currently on loan to Las Palmas, where he has participated in 23 league matches this season and is contracted with Barcelona until 2026.
Meanwhile, the left-back position remains plentiful as Barcelona awaits Alejandro Balde's recovery from injury, and there are plans to renew the contract of the promising player Hector Fort, alongside Alex Valle, who is on loan to Levante.
The newspaper concluded its report by stating that it has been decided to let go of Marcos Alonso at the end of his contract, who has begun negotiations with other clubs such as Atlético Madrid.
