According to Arabia Weather, it has been announced that, based on the Gregorian calendar and astronomical calculations, the year 2030 will witness the month of Ramadan twice. The first occurrence will be at the beginning of 2030, specifically on January 5, coinciding with the Hijri year 1451. Then, the month will come again in the same Gregorian year, 2030, on December 26, which corresponds to the Hijri year 1452. Consequently, the total days of fasting in 2030 will exceed 30 days, with 30 days at the beginning of the year and 6 days at the end of it.
#### Reason for Ramadan Occurring Twice in the Same Year
The lunar year, or Hijri year, is based on the moon's phases and consists of approximately 354 days in 12 months, unlike the Gregorian calendar which has 365 days. Therefore, the total number of days in the lunar year is about 11 days shorter than the total days in the Gregorian year. As a result, the Islamic lunar calendar shifts backward by about 11 days each year compared to the regular Gregorian calendar.
Due to the difference in the number of days between the lunar and Gregorian years, the first day of Ramadan moves backward by about 11 days each year from the previous year. This is why we fast in different seasons; we may fast in winter one year and in summer another year. The cycle of the month of fasting renews every 33 years. Since the cycle of the holy month renews every 33 years, it is expected that Ramadan will occur twice in the same year in 2030 and 2063.
