Sudanese Army "Plays" with Fuel Card; Rapid Support Forces Accuse It of Recruiting "Tigray" Fighters

The Sudanese army stated in a statement today, Saturday, that it has intensified its operations in the Kadro military area north of the capital Khartoum to cut off supplies to the Rapid Support Forces. The army announced it has destroyed several fuel trucks and combat vehicles, "killing everyone inside."

In turn, the Rapid Support Forces accused the Sudanese army, in a statement today, of relying on fighters from the Tigray People's Liberation Front amid the ongoing conflict between the two sides in the country. The Rapid Support Forces stated that they have "verified information" about the presence of Tigray People's Liberation Front forces fighting alongside the Sudanese army.

Clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces broke out in mid-April 2023 due to disagreements regarding plans to integrate the Rapid Support Forces into the army, while military and civilian parties were finalizing a politically supported process to transition to civilian rule after the ousting of former President Omar Al-Bashir in a popular uprising in 2019.

In recent weeks, the Sudanese army has made significant progress, managing to regain many positions from the Rapid Support Forces. Sources from the Sudan Liberation Army and Freedom and Change Forces indicated that forces from the Justice and Equality Movement, the Sudan Liberation Army, regular forces, and allied groups from the Joint Force and the Sudanese army are close to regaining the Jili oil refinery, north of Bahri city, which produces about 70% of Sudan's energy needs.

These forces continue to advance to reclaim the entire Darfur region and cleanse Sudanese cities of the Rapid Support Forces. The Joint Force in the Darfur region, formed by armed movements in the region following the outbreak of conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, announced on April 11 its departure from neutrality and its joining the fight alongside the army against the Rapid Support Forces.

The Joint Armed Struggle Forces reiterated their commitment to continue participating in the Battle of Dignity alongside the Sudanese armed forces and other security agencies on all fronts and fighting lines "to liberate every inch of the homeland."

For several days, fierce battles have been taking place between the Sudanese army and allied armed movements on one side, and the Rapid Support Forces on the other, in the Al-Jazirah state in central Sudan. The Rapid Support Forces had taken control of Al-Jazirah state in December of last year after violent clashes with the army that lasted for days.
