Mikel Merino scored a goal in extra time to give Spain a thrilling 2-1 victory over Germany in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Euro 2024 on Friday. The match seemed headed for penalties with a 1-1 draw until the 119th minute, when Merino soared high to head the ball into the net from a cross by Dani Olmo. After a goalless first half despite many chances, Olmo scored the opening goal for Spain in the sixth minute of the second half, before Florian Wirtz equalized in the final moments of regulation time.
