The head coach of German "Bayern Munich," Thomas Tuchel, expressed strong anger when discussing the referee's performance in the match against "Real Madrid" in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. The match ended in favor of the Spanish club, with a score of 2-1, and Bayern almost took the game into extra time when Matthias de Ligt scored in the 13th minute of stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
After the match at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium, Tuchel spoke passionately about the officiating, stating: "I think what happened contradicts any rule of modern football. It was a very bad decision." The referee had stopped the game before de Ligt struck at the goal, causing Real Madrid players to relax, but upon reviewing the play, it was shown that the Bayern Munich player was not offside.
The German coach added: "There was a catastrophic decision by the assistant referee and the referee. It seemed like a betrayal in the end... Having the audacity to raise the flag in this situation is a very big mistake, and the apologies are not worth the trouble." He continued: "When everyone gives their all, suffers, and plays without making mistakes, the referee should be at the same level as well."
For his part, Real Madrid's head coach Carlo Ancelotti said: "Did Bayern complain about the offside? Well, we are complaining about the disallowed goal for Nacho because Kimmich fell." The Italian coach added: "If they complain about that, then we can complain about our disallowed goal. Both players were pushing each other, and Nacho is the one who got penalized."
