Jürgen Klinsmann defended his humble beginning with the South Korean national team after the German coach failed to secure a win in four matches since succeeding Paulo Bento. Klinsmann was appointed last February. Under his leadership, South Korea has drawn two matches and lost two, amidst hopes of rebuilding the team. After a first draw against Colombia, South Korea lost to Uruguay and Peru, and then Klinsmann's team drew 1-1 with El Salvador in their most recent international match last Tuesday.
Klinsmann expressed during a press conference in Seoul on Thursday his desire to "quickly correct the situation because we believe we could have won every match." He added, "In the four matches, we were the better team and played wonderfully, especially in the first half against Colombia and the second half against Uruguay, as well as in the encounters with Peru and El Salvador." He continued, "We were clearly the better side and created many chances, but we failed to capitalize on them. We must take advantage of those opportunities next time, and we will work on that." Klinsmann took the role after three years since his last coaching stint with Hertha Berlin, which ended in disappointment in the German league, making his selection by the Korean Football Association surprising.
