Lebanon's Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib expressed condolences on behalf of Lebanon and the Lebanese people for the death of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, to Iran's interim President Mohammad Mokhber and senior officials in the Iranian government at a conference center in Tehran. Upon his arrival at Mehrabad International Airport, President Berri told Iranian media: "I had the honor of knowing the martyr president Ibrahim Raisi before he became president, and I saw in his face the vitality, capability, and strength of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but it is God's decree and fate." He added: "It is natural and a duty today for me, along with the Foreign Minister and His Eminence Sheikh Ali Khatib, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council, and the accompanying delegation, to stand by Iran, which has stood and continues to stand by Lebanon in expressing condolences on behalf of Lebanon and the Lebanese people over the martyrdom of President Ibrahim Raisi, Minister Abdullahian, and their fellow martyrs."
In the evening, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei welcomed President Berri, Bou Habib, and Sheikh Ali Khatib, in the presence of Mohammad Mokhber. Khamenei thanked Lebanon for the condolences and for declaring a national mourning in memory of Raisi and his companions. President Berri also met with his counterpart, Iranian Shura Council President Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf.
On another note, on the sidelines of his participation in offering condolences in Tehran, Berri met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
